Charges laid over illegal New Year’s Eve party at The George - Today News Post News Today || Headlines Today

The licensee of The George hotel and a man who allegedly promoted an illegal party at the pub on New Year’s Eve have been charged for breaking COVID-19 rules.

Police say officers stumbled across the party, full of hundreds of unmasked revellers, during a routine patrol of the CBD about 11.30pm on Friday.

They say the officers were then forced to scale the St Georges Terrace bar walls, having found the venue doors locked and windows covered, before shutting down the eventAny staff would therefore have to go voluntarily.

It is alleged that senior staff in attendance at The George did not ensure the relevant COVID restrictions were being followed by patrons.
